Hail Destroyer is Cancer Bats' second CD, and a quantum leap forward. They combine the aforementioned southern metal with hardcore punk, resulting in songs that are both groovy and angry. It's a lethal combination of great big guitar riffs, ferocious drumming, attitude and melody. The songs are really catchy and memorable, but have a sharp edge. The influences vary a bit from track to track, with some being metal songs with a hardcore punk vibe and vice versa.
Liam Cormier delivers the vocals with a high pitched yelling style. He's a fierce vocalist, and his passion and emotion are convincing. The production on Hail Destroyer is rawer and more natural than on their debut, and it showcases their style much better.
In their short existence (they've only been together for four years) Cancer Bats have already garnered a lot of buzz and their fan base continues to grow. It's obvious by listening to Hail Destroyer that they have really hit their stride, and that bodes really well for their future.
