Death Is Swallowed In Victory is prototypical deathcore. You'll hear the standard galloping riffs, blast beats, squealing guitars and of course the requisite breakdowns. The songs are technically sound and well played, but tend to blend into each other.
A Breath Before Surfacing shows some creativity in the song "Ray Road," where the death metal is interrupted by a progressive sounding interlude before diving back into brutality. More elements like that would help add some much needed diversity and set the band apart from the countless deathcore bands that sound exactly the same.
Dustin Curtis does a solid job on vocals. He varies his delivery from low pitched growls to angry yells to high pitched screams. Death Is Swallowed In Victory is a CD deathcore fans may dig, but to break out from the pack they need to develop a more unique and recognizable style.
