Brainstorm - Downburst

Brainstorm is one of those bands who have been around for a while, but don't get nearly the attention they deserve, at least in North America. The German band, which includes Symphorce vocalist Andy B. Franck, has been releasing CDs for a decade, although it's been nearly three years since we've heard new material from them.

Downburst is Brainstorm's seventh full-length, and continues their signature sound, which is a blend of power and traditional metal. Soaring melodies with sharp riffs and fast tempos mix with moderate paced and heavier straight ahead metal and a power ballad or two.

Hooks are in ample supply, as are singalong choruses. Brainstorm's songs are catchy and melodic, but there's enough of an edge to satisfy those who need a little more extremity. Andy B. Franck is an excellent vocalist, and his talents are put to good use as he is able to show his range and power throughout the album. Downburst is a solid power metal CD, and if you haven't discovered Brainstorm yet, there's no time like the present.
